Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Appears to His Disciples

Luke 24:36  And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 37  But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38  And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts. 39  Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. 40  And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. 41  And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42  And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43  And he took it, and did eat before them. 44  And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45  Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47  And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48  And ye are witnesses of these things. 49  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Jesus had revealed Himself to Cleopas and his friend, they were so excited they  immediately when back to Jerusalem and told everyone what had happened. While they were talking, Jesus appeared in their midst.

They were terrified because they thought they saw a spirit.

As always, the Lord Jesus brings comfort to the troubled heart.

Luke 24:38  And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts. 39  Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

Notice the specific words our Lord used when describing Himself. He said he flesh and bone. He did not say, flesh and blood.

God’s word teaches that we are born with flesh and blood. We are born corrupt, lost and undone in Adam. We are born sinners through the blood line of Adam.

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

We are all descendants of Adam, the blood line always comes through the male.

We also know that the life of the flesh is in the blood. No blood, no life. You have heard of people expiring of life because they lost blood; the life is in the blood. Leviticus 17:11  For the life of the flesh is in the blood:

Today, we need to learn a mystery. 1Corinthians 15:51  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,..

One day this flesh, this body we live in, the body of flesh and blood will be changed by the power of God. This earthly body will be changed to a heavenly body. The change will be like unto Jesus, flesh and bone, because flesh and blood cannot inherit heaven.

1Corinthians 15:49  And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. 50  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Colossians 3:4  When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

1 John 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

One day, we will be like our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, He is our life.

Would you trust Him today?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
