Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 26:11  As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

The idea here is of a person who professes to know Christ, or has obtained a false salvation, and is not truly changed, returns to their old ways.

Many people claim to be Christian but have never truly been saved. Christianity is Christ. Those who know Christ Jesus are a different kind of people, they are born again, given a new birth. Old things, the old life, the previous life of a Christian has been changed forever. Everything becomes new.

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

1John 5:12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If you know, you know.

Peter refers to this proverb when speaking about  those who profess to be Christian and return to their old unsaved ways and of those who are in leadership positions in the church.

2 Peter 2:22  But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

(I would encourage you to read all of 2Peter chapter 2. It speaks of false prophets and teachers who lead others astray. They, the false teachers, do not know the Lord yet pretend to do so. They are the ones in many of our modern churches today leading unstable souls like sheep.)

2Peter 2:14  Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

2Peter 2:17  These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

Not everyone who claims to be Christian are.

Eventually the person who claims to be Christian and are not return to their old vomit and to wallowing in the mire of sin. They will return because they were never really saved in the first place.

1John 2:19  They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

The word of God says the fool rejects God and says no to God.

Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Proverbs 26:11  As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

2 Peter 2:22  But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Do you have Christ Jesus? Are you born again? Has God completely changed you?

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The choice is still yours,
