Morning Devotion: Read Exodus

Exodus 4:27  And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him. 28  And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him. 29  And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel: 30  And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. 31  And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

In the previous verses of chapter four, Moses showed concern over his inadequacies to speak. The Lord said Aaron would be there to help and to speak with him.

Sure enough, Aaron while on his way to meet Moses meets the LORD first. Both Moses and Aaron rehearse all the words of the LORD and the signs which Moses experienced.

Immediately they went to Egypt and spake with all the elders of the people. Elders in this context means the leaders of the people.

Some churches today have elders. The term “elder” in the new testament means pastor or pastors. There are only two offices in the church today, they are Pastor and Deacons. Be careful of churches that have elder rule; those churches are operating without pastoral authority. Those churches are operating outside of biblical principles.

When Jesus had risen from the dead he gave to the New Testament church the leadership they needed.

Ephesians 4:11  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

The apostles are all gone to heaven, the prophets today are those who forth tell the word of God, not foretell. (Be careful of those who claim to have new revelation from God. The bible is complete and we need no new revelation.)

The remaining list consist of evangelist, pastors and teachers. Nowhere are elders listed. Again, an elder today is a pastor or in larger churches, pastors being lead by one pastor.

(As a side note: there are no priest or fathers, or cardinals, or pope or any such office in the biblical new testament church. Yet, people all over the world will follow men in offices which are not in scripture.)

Exodus 4:29  And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel: 30  And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. 31  And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

Moses and Aaron spake the all the words of the LORD to the elders and did signs before their eyes.

Confirmation was complete, the elders were satisfied because they knew the LORD had seen their affliction and heard their cry and was now going to save them.

The elders and all the people knew what Joseph and said four hundred years earlier. They knew the promises the LORD had made to their forefathers.

Genesis 50:24  And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 25  And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. 26  So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

When the elders heard and had seen what the LORD was doing, “they bowed their heads and worshipped.”

The Lord has given us promises of His return. We are living in those days. Would you worship the Lord? Would you be saved?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
