Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Ascension
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
For three years, ever since the Lord Jesus called His disciples, they were taught by the Lord and they were witnesses of all the Lord did.
The Lord gives His disciples purpose and eventually power to fulfil that purpose. In Verse 49 Jesus said they were to Jerusalem and He would send the promise of the Father upon them. What is the promise of the Father?
Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
In verses 51-53 they saw Jesus ascending into heaven. They returned to Jerusalem as instructed. There they waited for God to fulfil His promise.
God kept His promise; That promise was fulfilled in Acts chapter 2.
Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
My friend, every born-again bible believing Christian, at the moment of salvation (by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ) is filled and sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
If you are not born-again you do not have the Holy Spirit of Promise.
If you are born-again, you have the Holy Spirit of Promise and you have the capability to be a witness for the Lord Jesus Christ. You are endued with the power from on high.
If you are born-again, you have the Holy Spirit of Promise. Are you living and operating and witnessing to others telling them about Jesus?
The choice is still yours,
