Morning Devotion: Read Exodus

We are starting new series in the book of Exodus.

Exodus is a continuation of the books of Genesis. We know in Genesis that Abraham was told that Israel would go into captivity four hundred years.

Genesis 15:13  And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Acts 7:6  And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

We know that Joseph, one of Jacob’s sons, was sent before them by the wickedness of his own brothers who sold him into slavery. It was God’s plan to save Israel. Joseph stated that to his brother’s

Genesis 50:19  And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? 20  But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. 21  Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

His ordeal was hard and prosperous for the Lord was with Joseph. In the course of time God made Joseph ruler over Egypt under the hand of Pharaoh.

Psalm 105:17  He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: 18  Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: 19  Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. 20  The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. 21  He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:

A great famine came upon the whole land and Jospeh was there to help his family by bringing them to Egypt and feeding them. His father Jacob and all his brothers and their families survived the famine. They were blessed as they lived and thrived in the land of Goshen, Egypt.

Israel Increases Egypt

Exodus 1:1  Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob. 2  Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3  Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4  Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. 5  And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. 6  And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. 7  And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

Jospeh did not live forever. Genesis 50:22  And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years. 23  And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees. 24  And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 25  And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence. 26  So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

In all of Joseph’s ordeal to bring Israel to Egypt and safety we find the Lord was with him.

Genesis 39:2  And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. The same is said in Genesis 39:3, 21 and 23. The Lord was with Jospeh.

When you are going through a trial or trouble or malady or any issue that seems uncomfortable or creates a struggle in your life, would you consider the Lord? It could be there is something in your future that God is preparing you for.

Romans 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The choice is till yours,

Pastor Cook
