Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 24:7  Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

Remember, the fool as described in God’s word is the person who does not know God and has rejected God and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Psalm 53:1  The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Romans 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

The fool is only concerned about himself or herself.

Proverbs 18:2  A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

As our text tells us, it is the fool who does not understand the wisdom of God for it is too high for them; wisdom from above is beyond their comprehension for they are lost.

We also see that the fool will not be able to open their mouth in the gate. He simply will not have anything to say. He will be dumbfounded.

The “gate” is the place where judgement takes place. It is the place when people met together for court cases.

2Samuel 19:8  Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.

My friend, the fool, in the gate or in the place of judgement, will have nothing to say no defence and no argument of any value for he is without wisdom. We are talking about the judgment of God.

God says the fool and the transgressor will receive their reward and they will have nothing to say about it.

Proverbs 26:10  The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

Know this, judgment is coming and our Lord Jesus Christ will be the judge. All those who reject Jesus will meet Him face to face and He will reward them personally.

John 5:22  For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

John 5:27  And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

Matthew 7:21  Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22  Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Now, imagine standing before the one whom you rejected all your life and realizing that everything about God and Jesus Christ was true. At that point you would have nothing to say and no one to blame for the choice was always yours.

Proverbs 24:7  Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
