Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 12  As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Proverbs 15:23  A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

Words, words are that by which we communicate one to another. They are the essence of who and what we are. Your words identify you, they bear record of what you believe and the character by which you live.

The person who controls his or her words is a person who exhibits great wisdom and understanding.

James 3:13  Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Proverbs 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 12  As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Gold is representative of the deity of God and the Silver represents redemption through our Lord Jesus Christ.

When you have a picture of such description you have a word picture that emulates godliness.

When a person speaks about the Lord and His salvation, there can be no greater language given for it is a picture of gold in a picture of silver.

Proverbs 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 12  As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Now we come to the issue of reproof. Most people do not like reproof; reproof becomes offensive to them. Notice the phrase “upon an obedient ear.”

Godly words in the form of reproof may become offensive because the hearer is in a state of disobedience with God.

One person said: “A rebuke administered by a wise man should, in place of a rousing indignation, be esteemed as a greater value than a costly present.”

Proverbs 9:8  Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

Proverbs 10:17  He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

Proverbs 12:1  Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

Proverbs 13:18  Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

When a person gives you reproof, do you listen and ask, “are these things true” or do you openly dismiss them without giving thought to its value? How do you respond?

Proverbs 15:1  A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 25:11  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 12  As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

Our Lord Jesus Christ always used the right words at the right time.

1John 5:12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
