Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Is Buried
Luke 23:50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just: 51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God. 52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. 53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. 54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. 55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. 56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
We as Christians believe in the death burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The gospel (good news) is all about the death burial and resurrection. By that we stand.
1Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Involved in His death was the efficacious shedding of blood which washed aways our sins.
1Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
We see in our text that there was man named Joseph of Arimathaea who was very prominent man. He was a member of the Sanhedrin. He had a lot of influence and was prominently known. He was one of those who stood for the Lord even when his peers crucified the Lord.
Luke 23:50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just: 51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
Sometimes all it takes is one who will stand out from the crowd to make a difference in the grand scenario of God’s will.
The tomb where Jesus was laid was Joseph’s own. Matthew 27:59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
Being a part of the Sanhedrin, Joseph had audience with Pilot. Being a just man he had audience with God. Not being afraid to go before Pilot and not being afraid to humble himself, he begged the body of Jesus and it was granted.
Joseph of Aramathaea was willing to take an open stand for the Lord in the face of opposition. Luke 23:51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;)
What will it take for you to stand for the Lord in the midst of a world that rejects Him?
You may be a person of prominence and influence, would you use that to make a difference for God?
The choice is till yours,
