Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 18:6  A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. 7  A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

These verses go along with verse one where the fool separates himself from wisdom and meddles with the validity of it. He makes attempts to make Godly wisdom null and void.

Proverbs 18:1  Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

When the truth is brought to his attention, contention rises. He calls for strokes or fighting over truth. The believer should not fight over truth for truth stands by itself.

As we see in our text, the fool’s mouth is his destruction and his lips are a snare. The fool can never argue himself into heaven nor argue himself out of hell.

Just remember this, the Lord Jesus Christ which is in heaven hears and knows every word and thought of every person. He is the beginning and the end the first and the last, and, He keeps record of everything.

You can look at the wisdom of God in two ways, you can intermeddle with it or you can embrace it and love it.

Psalm 119:140  Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Psalms 18:30  As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Psalm 19:8  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

Psalm 119:111  Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

My new testament born again believer, here is what the Lord says about the relationship with His word.

John 14:23  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Here is what God said about Jesus and His word.

Mark 9:7  And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

Two choices are on the shelf, serving Jesus or serving self.

Take Time to read God’s word today. Don’t argue, or meddle, or fight against it, trust in it.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
