Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
God teaches us that we all have a spirit, soul and body. Those who are unsaved have a dead spirit. That is why the Lord uses the term “born again” in Join chapter 3.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
There is a physical birth when one breaks the water of the womb. There is a spiritual birth when one trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to save them.
When the spirit of a man is born again he is complete as a living spirit and a soul and body.
With that being said, let’s look at our text again.
Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
A born again person understands the “soul” matter of the issue when it comes to wisdom. He that loveth his own soul is the person who knows the difference between the soul and the flesh and the spirit and the flesh.
The soul is the immaterial part of man that exist forever. When a person leaves the world their soul moves to eternity, it will be eternal life or eternal death. The choice for eternity must be made before life ends. It must made while one is still cognitive.
Our verse tells us that he that loves his soul will embrace wisdom. We know that true wisdom comes from God.
Job 28:20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
A person who loves their soul will provide for their soul and its eternity.
Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Physically speaking, the soul can experience hunger, grief, love, fears, sorrow etc. Now, imagine eternity with your soul completely satisfied in Christ Jesus where there is no sorrow, or fear, or hunger, instead there is love, and mercy, and grace, and kindness, and the very glory of God.
Proverbs 19:8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
The choice is still yours,
