Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
To defer means to put off. It means to bear with or let it go for the time being .
To defer anger is to be in control of oneself. For the believer in Christ is allowing the Lord to control your emotions, reactions and actions.
2Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
The man that can defer, put off or, control himself when it comes to anger is the person who is of great understanding.
Proverbs 14:29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
The person who sees beyond the anger looking at the issue and the full implication of it, is the person who sees the reason for control.
Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Those who love the law of God, the word of God, understand what it says about man, the actions of man, the thoughts of man and the intrinsic reason why man does what he does. The bible tells you that man is a sinner, he will always act in sinful ways. When that man does what the bible says, the believer understands and has little reason to become angry, consequently he defers his anger.
Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
To defer anger is to embrace bowels of mercy, humbleness, long-suffering and kindness. It means to be like Christ.
Colossians 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
James 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
How you act is always your choice. The person who can defer is the person who allows Christ to control him; he is the person who is in control of his decisions.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
The choice is still yours,
