Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; 2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
There are several words used to begin the book of proverbs; wisdom, instruction, perception, understanding, instruction, justice, judgement, equity, knowledge and discretion. Much of this instruction is given to the youth by the parent.
Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
As we come to our text need to understand that the godly father and mother have much to say in guiding, protecting, leading to good equity and prosperity of life. Let’s face it, godly parents have experienced more in their life by the school of hard knocks and trusting the Lord through it all than their children have. They pass their knowledge and experience to their children.
Proverbs 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
A person brings waste to the father when they refuse instruction thinking they know better than the godly parent. The son or daughter that puts the hand up and refuses instruction (chasing away their mother) is the one who eventually gets themselves into trouble. When that happens the parents are the ones who come to the rescue.
Wasting the father is nothing more than doing wrong and expecting dad to bail you out rather than listening the first time. I have seen this happen so many times in my ministry. Eventually the son or daughter who never listens ends up in jail or worse, all because they refuse to listen. It becomes a viscous cycle until the parent’s are wasted.
I know parents who are rearing grandchildren because their own children refusing to listen got pregnant early and had no means to take care of their own. That is a waste.
How many of our youth have had drug addictions because they refused instruction and the parents struggle to help them?
When the youth live in rebellion, stubbornness and self gratification, they bring upon themselves and their families ignominy and reproach.
I know of a young man who after refusing to listen to his godly parents ended up dealing drugs. He eventually lost his young life after being shot during a drug deal. The parents now have to live with the grief. What a waste.
Proverbs 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Our heavenly Father gives us to greatest instruction one could ever hope for, it is called the Bible. In His wonderful word He gives a myriad amount of instruction for life and death and eternity to come. In the wonderful word of God we find salvation, we find Jesus.
Would you waste what God has given you; would you case away, push away and refuse such godly help?
Psalm 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
If you are in trouble because of your choices, refusing instruction, know that God wants to help you. He wants to save your soul and guide you in doing right. Go to the Lord seek His salvation in Christ Jesus.
The choice is still yours,
