Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

The person who fails to look ahead or fails to consider the trend or the way things are going according to the word of God, is the one who eventually is punished.

There are many things in our future that needs to be considered. How are things progressing in our world spiritually or economically or politically? (Read Matthew 24.) We, in light of God’s word, need to consider, take note and act accordingly.

I am reminded of those who saw the Lord working in Egypt when the plagues were used of God to punish Pharaoh. Pharaoh and all the people saw and experienced the plagues. Only those who understood what was happening hid their beasts before the foreseen hail storm.

Exodus 9:20  He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: 21  And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.

I am also reminded of Noah who followed the Lord’s leading and built an ark to the saving of himself and his family. Those who mocked and laughed drowned.

Hebrews 11:7  By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

We may not need to hide our beasts or build an ark, but we do need to take heed to what God is doing in this world and run safely to Jesus. Our safe haven is Jesus.

We have warning from God about judgement to come. He tells us of the righteousness of salvation in Jesus Christ and the judgment of lost sinners. The Lord gives us both sides of the coin; the goodness and the severity of God.

The man or woman who listens and takes heed is the one who hides himself or herself in the arms of Jesus and there safely abides.

I am reminded of the hymn “Safe in the Arms of Jesus.”

Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on His gentle breast, There by His love o’er shadowed, Sweetly my soul shall rest. Hark tis the voice of angels, Born in a song to me,.. Over the fields of glory, Over the jasper sea.

Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on His gentle breast, Then by His love o’er shadowed, Sweetly my soul shall rest.

My friend, don’t be simple when it comes to God’s warning. Let the living word of God be your safe place, forever.

Psalm 19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Jesus is the only safe place to be both now and for all eternity. Would you trust in Jesus?

Proverbs 22:3  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Proverbs 27:12  A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
