Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 22:8  He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. 9  He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Can you see the contrasts here in these verses? The word of God is full of contrasts, there are the good and evil, there are the godly and the ungodly, there are the faithful and the unfaithful, there are the pure and the filthy, there are the saved and the unsaved, there are the Christians and the religious, there are the sinners and those who are righteous in Christ Jesus.

Here in our text there are those who sow iniquity and those who sow benevolence. There are those who reap vanity (emptiness) and those who are blessed.

If you read between the lines you will find the person who sows iniquity often does so with anger while the one who is benevolent seems to have a spirit of calm and peace bringing forth benevolence.

That is a wonderful picture of our Lord Jesus Christ; Jesus is the peace giver and the benevolent one who is over all.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Proverbs 22:8  He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail. 9  He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Ecclesiastes 11:1  Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

There is one bread that many have been given but few receive. Jesus is the bread of life and His salvation has been cast upon many waters.

John 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

John 6:48  I am that bread of life.

Proverbs 22:9  He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Our Lord has the bountiful eye and the compassionate eye and has given His life so that you may have the bread of life.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
