Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 30:11  There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. 12  There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. 13  There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. 14  There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

The word generation speaks of a certain class of people, such as when Jesus said “A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.” Matthew 16:4

In this passage the generation refers to the youth that curses parents and refuses to be a blessing. It is the generation that from their youth has carried such antics into adulthood.

This generation is one that often carries themselves with pride lifting their eyes and eyelids in pride. You’ve seen them, their chin in the air in haughty defiance against that which is right and just. Their filthiness is not washed but rather embraced.

When corrected they attack with vicious words making their jaw teeth like knives.

I have the great privilege of working with teens and youth, many of them have been groomed by circumstances, false teachings, and societal norms in life to become such a described above.

Many are without fathers, mothers, living with one another because they have been rejected are without godly leadership to help them.

There is an answer to for this generation, there is an answer for you and the world, it is Jesus.

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Paul addressed the change one can have in Christ.

Ephesians 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Of what generation are you?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
