Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Contributions for the Sanctuary
Exodus 25:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering. 3 And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass, 4 And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair, 5 And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood, 6 Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense, 7 Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate. 8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. 9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.
In the next several chapters we see God giving Moses a pattern to build the Sanctuary for God on earth. This Sanctuary or Tabernacle was to be made according to the one already in heaven.
Hebrews 8:5 ….as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
Hebrews 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
The pattern God gave Moses matched the pattern of the Tabernacle in Heaven, however, this earthly Tabernacle was made with man’s hands and was worldly.
Hebrews 9:1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
The one in heaven was made by God. The one on earth was made by man as a place for God to dwell. We will see that God did choose to fill the earthly Tabernacle with His wonderful glory.
Notice the second verse. God requests that the people bring of their goods and possessions to build the Tabernacle. We know they had the means to do so because they spoiled the Egyptians.
Exodus 12:36 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.
Exodus 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.
With all their spoils they had the means to give to the Lord for the building of the Tabernacle. Many people today have the means to give; do they?
Notice the Lord used the word “willingly.” Exodus 25:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
My friend, you will also notice that the Lord said “willingly with his heart.”
Giving to the Lord is a reflection of the heart. You can have a willing heart or an unwilling heart. The willing heart God blesses, the unwilling heart goes without God’s blessing.
We will see later in the book of Exodus that the people had a very willing heart and gave so much that Moses had to tell them to stop. Wow! It would be wonderful if every bible believing local church had a congregation that had willing hearts.
It all comes down to the heart’s willingness to serve the Lord.
Christian, what kind of heart do you have in relationship to the Lord?
What kind of heart do you have when it comes to tithes and offerings and missions giving?
The choice is still yours,
