Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Ark of the Covenant

Exodus 25:10  And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof. 11  And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about. 12  And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it. 13  And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold. 14  And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them. 15  The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it. 16  And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee. 17  And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof. 18  And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat. 19  And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof. 20  And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be. 21  And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. 22  And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

The Ark of the covenant was the centre of worship for it is the place where God met with man. It is the instrument the cabinet or container that God used to hold His law or what is called the testimony of God; it held the word of God which was given to Moses there in the mount. It was never to be worshipped for God only is to be worshipped. (Jesus is God in the flesh, hence, Jesus is worshipped.)

The Ark was about four feet by two feet by two feet high. It was made of shittim wood, a very hard wood. It was covered in pure gold throughout. It had the images of two cherubims with their wings overspreading the mercy seat which was on the top of the lid. That mercy seat was the place where God met with man.

The Ark of the covenant was the centre of worship for all Israel. It was not to be worshipped but the place of worship. Never get that confused with how people worship images and idols like Mary and the 360 god’s in the Ka’aba or the millions of gods of eastern religion. My friend the one and true God is to be worshipped for there is no other.

The Ark of God was placed in the Holy of Holies, which was a separated place in the tabernacle. You had the Holy place and the Holy of Holies. It was the place where God dwelt. It was the place of God’s glory.

Do you know where God meets with man today? He meets with man through the word of God via the Holy Spirit who is God.

The believer is the temple of God and God is in their hearts. 1Corinthians 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Every believer has the testimony of God within as well. 1Corinthians 1:4  I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5  That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 6  Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

1John 4:4  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

My friend, if you claim to be a born again believer in Christ Jesus and you are living a sinful life, the temple you claim to be and testimony you claim to have is not according to the word of God.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
