Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Golden Candlestick
Exodus 25:31 And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same. 32 And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side: 33 Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick. 34 And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers. 35 And there shall be a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick. 36 Their knops and their branches shall be of the same: all it shall be one beaten work of pure gold. 37 And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it. 38 And the tongs thereof, and the snuffdishes thereof, shall be of pure gold. 39 Of a talent of pure gold shall he make it, with all these vessels. 40 And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount.
The candlestick was beautiful, it was made of one piece of gold beaten to form. It was not melted and molded, it was beaten into shape. My, my, this must have taken some great time and effort. The result was one piece of pure gold again representing the deity of Christ.
The candlestick had six branches one either side representing the twelve tribes of Israel. One lighted bowl for each tribe.
As we look at the candlestick we find it represents the Lord Jesus Christ. The lamp gave light whereby the priest conducted their business in the Holy Place.
We must understand, everything in the tabernacle represented Christ; the entire worship system represented Christ, from lamb chosen without spot, to the shedding of blood, to the sacrifice of it, represents Christ chosen by God without sin giving His life on the cross for us. All the furniture and the coverings, the curtains, the fence and all that pertains to the tabernacle is a picture of Christ.
The candlestick represents Christ in that Jesus is the pure light of the world.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Jesus is the light that lights everyman with physical life. He is the light that gives each and everyone a soul and cognizance and intelligence and gives us the capability to make decisions. Not like animals who have no soul.
John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
Jesus gives us life spiritually as well. John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
2Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Those who are not born-again do not have the spiritual light, they have been blinded into darkness.
2Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
As believers, we are children of the light and walk in the light for there is no darkness with God. His word is a light for our guidance as well.
1John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalms 43:3 O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.
1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
My friend, are you a child of the light in Christ Jesus?
My Christian friend, are you walking in the light of Christ and the word of God?
The choice is still yours,
Pastor Cook
