Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 30:17  The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

It is a well know fact that the ravens, vultures and other birds begin with the eyes when they devour their carrion.

When you read about such birds in the bible you will find that they are associated with evil.

Jesus explained this in the parable of the seed and the sower.

Matthew 13:3  And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4  And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Matthew 13:18  Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19  When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Proverbs 30:17  The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

The eye is associated with seeing and understanding in light of the truth.

Matthew 6:22  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

The person who does not understand or cannot see clearly is the one who mocks their parents and refuses instruction.

The ravens and the eagles, the wicked, will cause the mocker to retain his or her lack of understanding by their unwillingness to see clearly. They literally become blind to truth.

Paul, who was a Apostle to the gentiles states this very fact concerning the truth of the gospel, the good news of salvation.

2Corinthians 4:3  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 30:17  The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

Couple our todays verse with previous verses in this chapter.

Proverbs 30:11  There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. 12  There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. 13  There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

Are your eyes open to the truth? can you see clearly the things concerning salvation?

If you desire to be saved and experience the love from God through His Son Jesus Christ you may. Simply pray this prayer believing with all your heart.

“God I know I am a sinner in need of salvation. I now repent of my sin asking you to save me. Please come into my heart and save my soul for I cannot save myself. I now place my faith and trust in Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour whom you have sent.”

Please let us know if you have made that decision.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
