Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 30:7  Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: 8  Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9  Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

This dear prayer of Agur is, or aught to be, the example of every born again believer.

The first of two requests was to be kept from iniquity. His desire was to be kept from vanity and lies.

Vanity comes from the word vain. The word vain means empty. Agur wanted to be kept from things that were vain, empty of value and of little worth in regard to the Lord and His will. He never wanted to sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the temporary, the altar of vanity.

What you do for God will last forever; the man of God fears vanity for he knows it will distract him from God and displease God who saved his soul. His desire is to walk with God in holiness and joy; vanity separates him from that relationship for his pursuit is not toward God but toward worthlessness.

How many dear saints have sacrificed their mornings rushing off to work without seeking God in His word and in prayer? How many dear friends have sacrificed their days, their weekends, their time for worldly pleasure instead of church? How many dear souls have sacrificed the hours of their day scrolling their phone rather than reading God’s word? How many dear Christians have sacrificed their time with God for vanity?

2 Corinthians 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

Romans 14:8  For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

Today Lord help us to make you first, keeping you the priority of our life in every aspect of our spiritual, social, physical, mental, and psychological life.

Micah 6:8  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
