Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 29:10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
There is a great difference between the saved and the unsaved, between the Christian and the non-christian, between the born again and the living dead.
One has the Lord Jesus Christ and the other does not. One is godly and the other is not. One is of Christ and in Christ and the other is of Satan.
Jesus said to the lost religious bloodthirsty crowd in John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
Yet, even after the bloodthirsty religious crowd hung Jesus on the cross and while He was suffering on that cross, He said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” My friend that is a perfect example of the just seeking the soul of the bloodthirsty while the bloodthirsty hated the upright.
The true believer knows the dilemma of the lost; the believer knows the lost does not understand the truth apart from the influence of the Holy Spirit. With that understanding they reach out to the lost, they share the gospel with the lost, trusting God to change their hearts.
Did you know God answered that prayer that Jesus made?
Peter preached to the same crowd that crucified Jesus and three thousand of them trusted in Christ.
Peter preached in Acts 2:22 “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:”
Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Later Peter preached again and five thousand of those who crucified Jesus were saved.
Acts 4:4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
As a side note: The prayer Jesus made from the cross was for those who crucified Him. It was not a blanket prayer for the whole world. A lot of people believe that they are forgiven because Jesus prayed that prayer thinking it is for the whole world and them in particular. It’s not. Read the context of Acts chapter two again.
Here is what Jesus prayed for the world, and you in particular, as He was praying for His disciples.
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
His prayer is that the lost world would believe in Him through the wonderful preaching of God’s word.
No! the whole world is not saved; only those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour will be saved.
