Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. 16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. 17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
A very sad commentary in our world today is when wisdom fails and the child begins to act like the parent. Nothing causes us to realize our personal failures more than seeing them emulated in our children.
There is a dearth in correction in our youth making the scriptures correct as prophecy manifests itself in the nations of the world. Children, uncorrected, become the future leaders and wickedness is multiplied.
Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
Isaiah 3:4 And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.
Training children in the righteousness of the Lord and His word gives that child a better chance of retaining righteousness than one who is left to himself producing lawlessness and carrying that lawlessness to adulthood.
Im a reminded of Moses who was trained in righteousness and when he was come to adulthood choose to do right.
Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. 28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. 29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
When coming to years, or maturity, everyone has to make a choice of who they will follow. Sad is the person who chooses wickedness and glad is the person who chooses Christ. The child who lived with correction will often choose right.
On the opposite side of the coin, I am reminded of two young men whose father was a drunk and abused the family. When the boys came to years, the one chose to be a drunk, the other chose to be clean and pure. When asked why they both retorted with he same answer. “Because my father was a drunk.”
You can choose your destiny, in doing so, your destiny chooses you.
