Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Are you a happy person or, does everything seem negative and morose in your life?
God tells us that a person who has nothing to look forward to is unhappy. Where there is no vision or prospect of the future; more importantly where there is no oracle or word of God, there is perishing.
In 1 Samuel, there was no vision or word of God to Israel until Samuel the prophet had received the word from the Lord. 1 Samuel 3:1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
1Samuel 3:4 That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
The vision was not some spooky thing conjured in the heart or mind of an individual; the vision was God giving His word to Samuel.
God spoke many times in like manner.
Isaiah 1:1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
Obadiah 1:1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom;
Today people claim to have visions; their visions were probably too much pizza before bed. We have the completed word of God there is no need for extra visions and revelations from God. He has already said what He needed to say.
1Corinthians 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
That which is perfect is God’s word, namely the King James Bible. If you read it and know it and memorize it, it will give you all the “vision” you need.
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
A primitive root of the word perish is to loosen; by implication to expose, dismiss; figuratively absolve, begin: - avenge, avoid, bare, go back, let, (make) naked, set at nought, perish, refuse, uncover.
God’s word gives us further insight when it says, “but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
The law is the word of God. There you have it. The vision is the word of God, the law is the word of God. Without the word of God people perish. Anything else beside the word of God is a false vision which is not of God.
God gave us clear warning concerning those who would deceive you with false visions.
2Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
Jesus gave us clear warning concerning those who would deceive you with false visions.
Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Do you want to be happy?
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
