Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 29:23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Proverbs 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
How does one determine pride in their own heart? How do you know you are prideful?
Do you always believe you are right even when proven wrong? Are you unteachable? Do you have a pretence to argue? These are some of the things that accompany a proud person.
Pride is a sneaky thing for it rarely reveals itself to its host and always protects itself.
Throughout the scriptures we find individuals filled with pride, we find families filled with pride and we find nations filled with pride; leaders of nations filled with pride. All such have met their destruction from the hand of God.
Today, we see pride is infused in all aspects of life, religion and politics as men still refuse to humble themselves before God.
The thing about pride is this, it refuses to bow until it is too late. Even then, pride often refuses to bow.
Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Proverbs 29:23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
It is the humble that receives honour from the Lord.
1Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Lord, today let us choose humility over pride that we may be pleasing in your sight.
